Not too long ago we completed an urban scenery project for one of our good friends and clients here at 3T-Studios. Our client asked for a factory type ruin, similar to a piece he already owned, but wanted something larger and more intricate. Here’s the result and the progress log that led up to this impressive piece.
This piece seemed relatively straightforward on paper, but like everything we do, it proved to have its own set of challenges that we did not anticipate, and as a result learned a little more about the craft along the way.
The plan was to build a 3-story industrial building, with a loading dock, catwalks inside, a boiler/furnace area with smokestacks, large windows and a billboard style sign on the roof. Unfortunately, there was a good deal of building and rebuilding that led to up to a semi-finalized design, so there are no pictures of the planning/material cutting phases. But I can assure it involved MDF board, blue foam and foamcore.
