If you follow the news, you’ve probably heard about the tragic attacks that took place on a US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 11th. Four Americans were killed in the attack.

One of those Americans was named Sean Smith, he was a husband and father of two and an IT worker for the State Department. He was also an avid gamer in the virtual world of Eve Online, under the name Vile Rat. He was intelligent, cool and funny, and for the thousands upon thousands of people from all over the world who chose to escape into the world Eve Online, he was also an icon and a fixture who used subtle tactics of diplomacy and espionage to make the game fun, interesting and exciting for everyone involved, often times whether they knew it or not. I was one of those people who cheered his exploits, and I was fortunate enough to have flown spaceships with him and talked with him one-on-one several times, where he proved to be as helpful and generous about real life matters as he was when flying through virtual space.

I cannot write a better Eulogy than his close friend and internet-spaceship spook extraordinaire, The Mittani, but I, like many people right now,  feel the shock and sting of loss from his passing.

RIP Vile Rat, and from all of us members of the swarm who will miss you, fofofofo    o/
