What’s New and Upcoming Projects.

I finally finished the Ogre Display Boards Project Logs. I would have enjoyed it better if I wasn’t already knee deep on yet another project which by the way is turning out to be a fun one. I’ve done a lot of Pueblo style before but this Ranch Set will feature some of my newest accessories as well as a new critter Runt is making. It turned a little more elaborate than previously conceived but that’s just a norm around here.

Lets see, after this Ranch set there are some upcoming projects that have been long overdue. Remember this project?

Everyone is a Critic.

I am currently working on a themed Ork Ranch set; Barn-like structure, corral and a guard tower. The style is pueblo which is having a popularity resurgence. I am thoroughly enjoying myself with this project and of course per usual I am taking my sweet time. The details on this is insane. Included will be a new squiglet that Runt is sculpting, I am also sculpting new accessories, all will be featured for the first time in this project.

This project got me thinking about the last huge commissioned piece I did of this style. It was a pueblo style Ork squig pit arena. This was a joint project I did with Runt. At the time I wasn’t yet heading up all ork terrain. Once I got the hang of it though I took over and discovered that I really love doing ork terrain. Here are some snap shots.

The concept drawing next to the finished arena. Minor changes and additions, but overall spot on to what the plan was.

Runt featured this project on one popular site. We call it “whoring it out” to get some buzz and increase exposure for our work. It was received well enough and only a few criticism. Here’s one that stuck. [Read more...]

Look what I found… and lost

Going through my unsorted pictures I found this gem. I realized that there are a lot of things we haven’t shown and included in our gallery. I barely remember making this but looking at it I thought it was worth posting,

Another angle.

I also found in the same folder this picture of my beloved cat fluffy, I just realized why these picture were never added or why I haven’t done any content on our website for a long time. About August last year I lost my cat. He was a semi indoor outdoor cat and one day when I let him out he just didn’t came back. Last year was a very uninspired year for me. I miss you boy. :(

Doppelgänger

I was doing my morning sorting of mail when I came across a curious message from this bloke ( My number one fanboy, Giga you know you are) wondering if we started selling kits of our pueblo style orks. Thinking he was just interested about such a product I promptly answered,  “No, not yet but maybe in the future.” I then get a follow up message with some picture attachments. He claimed that he’s been seeing products similar to ours going up and selling in ebay.uk. I assured him that we haven’t done any British invasions.

I must admit I was confused as well when I saw the pictures as they were looking very similar to a set we put up a few months ago. I thought, “Did I happen to get drunk and put some of my pieces up without knowing?” Nope. Upon closer inspection I saw that although the pieces have similarities I can tell that our process differ.

The folks at the studio all agreed that this fellow’s style is very similar to ours. From the window bars and frames, weathering, the glyphs on plating. Etc. [Read more...]

Little Bitty Things

My background on miniatures started about 12 years ago. At that time I had recently bought a townhouse dollhouse that I started to furnish and was in the process of adding details such as miniature food and dish items for the dining table. I must have gone to half a dozen miniatures stores between CA and AZ and nowhere did I find any food items or miniature dishes and when I did come across any, they were never to my standards. It was something that just wasn’t available at the time. It would take another 3 years before I actually had the idea to make my own and it is only after my mom in law showed me her old collection of food item/dishes that she had sculpted using Play-Doh. I noticed though that this material shrunk and cracked over time and so began my quest to find a material that was both durable and easy to work with.

I’ve worked with clay and Papier-mâché pulp before and know that these things just aren’t suitable for sculpting small and detailed items. It was then such a wonderful thing when I first discovered polymer clay.  Polymer clay is a soft and smooth material that comes in three consistency, soft, firm and super firm. It also comes in variety of colors and opacity. It is often unnecessary for me to paint the miniatures that I’ve created and any color tones I needed could be executed by simply kneading the different colored clays together to achieve the look I want. But paint is nothing to worry about because this material is compatible with almost any types of paint and dust pigments. This material has made it possible for me to sculpt realistic looking miniatures. Here are some of my earlier works.

Hey a place where I get to talk about anything and everything I want. Neato. I even got to have a new avatar courtesy of RuntHerder. The bastard  told me to feature it on my first post. So here it is.
